Marina Del Rey

Marina Del Rey

Marina del Rey is an active beach community is situated within an unincorporated area of Los Angeles County and is located south of Venice west of Culver City and north of Playa del Rey.

Marina del Rey boasts the largest man-made, small-craft marina in the world with over 6,000 pleasure boats. Boating and fishing, bird watching, biking, windsurfing, whale-watching and kayaking are just a few of the offerings in this athletic community. From almost any location in the Marina you can enjoy a mountain, ocean, harbor or city view.

The Marina has its own Fisherman’s Village located on the water with shops, gourmet restaurants, and live music in summertime. You can also charter or rent a boat from here. The Marina also has waterfront hotels and plenty of outdoor dining to enjoy the view. Just four miles to LAX, the Marina is easily accessible to all major freeways and is just a half-hour drive to downtown Los Angeles.

Chace Park sponsors year-round events including free summer evening concerts. The park also has picnic shelters, barbecues and guest docks for family gatherings and parties.

Mother’s Beach is a favorite for moms because it has no surf and plenty of play equipment for kids. It’s also a great place to learn to windsurf or kayak.

The Marina has several appealing residential neighborhoods. The Marina Peninsula is a one mile long stretch of beachfront single-family homes and condos and quaint ‘walk streets’ where homes are separated by a sidewalk instead of a street. This area runs from the Venice Pier south to the Marina Harbor where it ends, offering no through traffic to cars – a soothing prospect for car-weary Angelenos! This pedestrian-friendly environment encourages bikers, skaters, runners and dog-walkers to get out and enjoy the weather.

The Silver Strand is just east of the peninsula across the Ballona Lagoon and offers residents another quiet, low-traffic neighborhood with high-end homes, townhomes and condos. A dog-friendly walking path runs along the lagoon offering peaceful strolls and bird-watching in this restored natural habitat and bird sanctuary. In addition, there are adult living complexes offering all the amenities including pools, spas, tennis courts, gyms and more.

A mile or so inland a quiet, suburban neighborhood known as the Golden Triangle offers a mix of traditional homes and gated townhome communities as well as brand new, luxury high-rise condos. All of these neighborhoods are convenient to Washington Blvd., the Marina’s main commercial corridor which has a myriad of good eateries to choose from local breakfast haunts to excellent Indian, Thai, Sushi, Italian, & French restaurants.

Fireworks kick off on Some of the Holiday celebrations with the Annual Holiday Boat parade. Boaters dress up their boats with lights and decorations and cruise the harbor. You can watch the parade from the shore or get on a boat – even a dinghy – and participate.
